چکیده
This work investigates plastic deformation around non-metallic inclusions in rolling contact fatigue applications. Subsurface stresses from Hertzian theory are applied form of far-field loading on an elasto-plastic micro-mechanical model isolated inclusion. Initial and cyclic micro-scale plasticity quantified, assuming linear kinematic hardening for the steel matrix elastic or perfectly behavior The accumulated strain evaluated matrix. effect yield strength is investigated along with superimposed macro-residual stresses.

Predicting Depth and Path of Subsurface Crack Propagation at Gear Tooth Flank under Cyclic Contact Loading
In this paper, a two-dimensional computational model is proposed for predicting the initiation position and propagation path of subsurface crack of spur gear tooth flank. In order to simulate the contact of teeth, an equivalent model of two contacting cylinders is used. The problem is assumed to be under linear elastic fracture mechanic conditions and finite element method is used for numerical...
متن کاملPlasticity Effect on Residual Stresses Measurement Using Contour Method
Residual stresses have become an important player in the field of the structural integrity for many years. Having an exact knowledge of residual stress distributions can be essential in designing the engineering components as unexpected failures are inevitable where such stresses are ignored. There are many residual stresses measurement techniques including destructive and non-destructive ones...
متن کاملThe Effects of Total Meniscectomy on Knee Joint Contact Stresses: a Finite Element Study
As a first step to answer this research question, we carried out a comparison study, by finite element methods, on the contact stresses in the tibiofemoral joint of an intact knee and one with a total meniscectomy. Peak compressive stress increases after total meniscectomy. Results of this study show that the meniscectomised knee is subjected to high stress levels which may cause cartilage matr...
متن کاملfinite element modeling and experimental study of residual stresses in repair butt weld of st-37 plates
welding is one of the most important assembling methods which are widely applied in different applications. in service conditions, some of the weld joints which meet defects must be repaired. the residual stresses impress the operation and efficiency of the repair weldment. in this study, the temperature and the residual stress fields were investigated by both the finite element simulation and ...
